About the book

Patristic Theology is an invitation to slow, focused reading. It offers no simplified shortcut, but allows the reader to follow how experience, tradition, and knowledge meet in the thought of the early Church Fathers. The author revives the ancient concept of the Church as a “spiritual hospital” and shows that Christian asceticism is not a moral command but a therapeutic tool for healing the human person. The significance of this work, born in the university setting, lies in its bold cleansing of Eastern Christian thought of later Western philosophical accretions and scholasticism. It thus offers the modern reader an authentic and unadulterated key to the mystical core of the early Church.

Voices that place the book in context.

Andrew Louth
